Do you ever wonder what really goes on behind the scenes of a reality show? Well UnREAL gives you a true perspective that is indeed totally unreal. It is a US drama that made itself debut in 2015 and is now in its 3rd season.
Rachel played by Siri Appleby is a producer on the popular reality show called Everlasting, which is a version of The Bachelor. It follows the same narrative of a TV series where a guy has to choose from numerous gorgeous women to be his wife. Rachel works closely with Finn, played by Constance Zimmer, her boss who is career driven and very demanding. Rachel and Finn are both similar as they will stop at nothing to get what they want in order to create a hit show.
They are joined by Chet, played by Craig Bierko who is the eccentric and drug-using creator of Everlasting who has an on/off affair with Quinn. Jay, played by Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, who is a producer on Everlasting and Madison played by Genevieve Buechner, who starts off as Quinn’s meek production assistant and moves up to junior producer. Then there is Jeremy, played by Josh Kelly who is a camera operator and Rachel’s ex-boyfriend.
As well as making sure that the contestants stay on track, Rachel’s job is to keep the drama going by any means necessary. So if that means manipulating a contestant by playing on their weaknesses she will do it. If it means inviting an abusive ex-husband of one of the contestants onto the set for a tragic confrontation, she will do that too. As well as sending in the religious father of one of the contestant to catch her having sex with the bachelor. There is nothing she will stop at doing.
I find UnREAL totally addictive; it is salacious and downright wicked viewing. At times you do feel like a voyerour peeking on people’s mis-doings. Despite the antics that they get up to, it is great to see strong women in powerful positions.
You can watch UnREAL on Amazon Prime.
