Having been to Lagos many times and did the native thing, my family and I decided that on this trip we would do the tourist thing. So we decided to seek out cool restaurants, cafes and bars to hang out in. The Backyard Bar & Grill was the perfect place for this.
It is a part restaurant, bar and hangout joint that is located in Victoria Island. The decor is very modern and spacious and has a Scandinavian Modern feel to it with bench style seating. It is also has a large outside seating area as well as an ice cream lounge.
The menu is Mediterranean based and consists of lots of meat dishes, salads and sandwiches. We visited this place twice during our trip, the first time was on a Saturday evening where we had cocktails at the bar. They were some tasty cocktails which were made with a lot of flourish by the attentive barman.
We found the staff to be very friendly and apart from two members of staff almost getting into a punch-up right in front of us (yes seriously) we had a rather lovely time. The owner kept on checking on us to make sure that we were ok so they get 10/10 for attentiveness.
The second time we visited was on a weekday and we treated ourselves to lunch. I had the Caeser Salad with chicken, I am not really a salad person but I quite enjoyed this. The presentation of the food was fantastic and you can tell that a lot of thought had gone into it.
Backyard draws a very eclectic crowd, from hip afropolitans, to ex-pats and the Nigerian elite. The place is perfect if just to people watch.
The Backyard Bar & Grill is based on 4B Musa Yaradua Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
