Since being gifted my Nokia Lumia 925 earlier this year I have been obsessed with it and it very rarely leaves my hand. The fantastic camera means that I tend to leave my trusted DSLR at home. The Nokia Lumia 1020 on the other hand is really amazing. It’s not just the phenomenal camera which is an incredible 41 megapixels which you can create supersize images on. It is the Zoom feature which allows you to blow up an image and discover more detail than the eye can see. The PureView technology produces sharp and crisp images that are amazing on the eye. If you thought the camera on the 925 was great well wait till you see this. If video is your thing then you will be pleased to know that the phone captures footage with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts thanks to Nokia Rich Recording, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones. We have been talking about 4G for a couple of years and to be honest I never paid much attention but the network is a total upgrade from 3G. It is faster and a lot smoother. All my apps just seem to work much more seamlessly on the 1020. Faster, cleaner and swifter – they actually feel brand new.
Aesthetically the 1020 is very appealing, it is slightly chunkier and larger than its predecessor but the additional bulk makes it a lot more sturdier and safer in your hands. The exterior has a zoom lens on the back but it is tastefully designed so it does not look obstructive. The back of the phone comes in white, black and yellow. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Lumia 925 but the Lumia 1020 is just so lush. I attended the launch of the Lumia 1020 last week which consisted of a press conference at the O2 and after a boat cruise and a bus tour round central London we celebrated the debut of the phone by attending the launch party for the Weber X Bailey exhibition. This event was very special because not only did it showcase the work of of Bruce Weber and David Bailey, two of the most acclaimed fashion photographers of our time but all the images in the exhibition were shot on the Lumia 1020. Bailey and Weber have shared with us the images that they captured from their visit to neighbourhoods in Harlem and it really shows how incredible the phone camera is.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be available in stores from next Wednesday from all major retailers and network operators including, 3, O2, Vodafone, EE, Phones4U & Carphone Warehouse. The handset is available now for pre-orders.
You can view the Weber X Bailey exhibition at the Nicholls and Clarke Building in Shoreditch till this Saturday.
