Just Eat – Yay or Nay?

January 30, 2018

So about a month ago my Mum and I were feeling hungry and had a craving  for KFC. Me being the lazy git I am could not be bothered to traipse down to the High Street (a 20 minute walk to my defence) to our local KFC., so I did what any self respecting modern lady would do. I logged online to find a delivery service and came across Just Eat.

I went onto the site, selected what I wanted, placed my order and sat back and waited for my delivery to arrive. The delivery time was estimated at around an hour but the delivery man turned up will within that time. He handed over my order, I thanked him and that was that – and the KFC was as tasty as ever. Happy mum and happy daughter. I even went on Twitter and raved about how great Just Eat were.

A week ago I became aware of an incident where a lady had ordered via Just Eat and had been bombarded by unwanted messages via Whatsapp from the delivery guy who had taken a liking to her. She made an official complaint to the brand and was offered an apology and £5 compensation for her distress which was later increased to £10. The story went viral and has been covered in the media.

All I can say is wow! Not only is this a compete invasion of someone’s privacy and safety but the fact that Just Eat could be so dismissive to a customer who has been treated this way is appalling. Just Eat, it is not ok that a member of your staff behaved this way. The fact that you demonstrated such lack of concern for your customer’s care tells me that you do not value them. It also makes me wonder how you go about vetting your staff and what you do with our private information.

I also need to add that since the story broke, the lady in question has been contacted by numerous women who have had the same thing happen to them. I am now side eyeing my Just Eat app.

Just Eat have since released a statement apologising for the incident and stating that they are investigating the matter.

Have you ever used Just Eat? What are your thoughts?

Oh my goodness. While I was reading your first paragraph I was thinking to myself I must try them out. I will never do that now based on their awful treatment of this poor woman. Its really quite disgusting.

Oh I haven’t even heard about this. It’s awful behaviour. Although, a similar thing once happened to me but with a Tesco Delivery Driver.

I saw this story on Twitter and was disgusted by it. As if a £5 or even £10 voucher is going to help the situation! Appalling.

I can remember watching a video on this on Youtube and my first thought were they clearly didn’t grasp the severity of the situation to think it was ok to give £5 to the victim. I feel like this behaviour has become a norm because women tolerate it and don’t speak up about it making it easier for companies like this to act this way. Its actually disgusting. I for sure will not be using JustEat again.

We offer from Just Eat all the time but the delivery drivers around here are from the individual restaurants. Not sure if that is the case in all places though.

I am not sure if I made it clear but the delivery is taken out by the restaurant but these restaurants are partners of Just Eat so should be vetted.

I hadn’t heard about this story before now. I have used Just Eat for years and years, but to be fair, I do usually send my boyfriend to the door to collect the food.

Wow! 5 pounds is not much! This is so rude of the company! I would feel scared if it happens to me. I can’t believe they did not take the matter more seriously…

I use just eat all the time. I love that I can use the app on my phone, order my delivery and have it brought to my home. Its always un-nerving hearing of this though!

I use Just Eat and thankfully that’s never happened to me – then again we basically use the same places all the time so they would be daft to harass us 🙂

I think people only do daft things if they think they can get away with it.

I use Just Eat and haven’t had any problems. Then again, maybe I’m not pretty enough for someone to bombard with messages. Haha!

Wow that is terrible on all accounts. I haven’t used Just Eat before as we have a favourite take aways we always order from but I would still keep an open mind to using them as although the company did not handle it all that well it is an isolated incident it seems?

They need to establish some sort of rules and procedures on what to do in this circumstances.

I guess that could happen with any delivery service, as far as I know it’s the individual places that provide the delivery rather than just eat themselves.
