I have always been a huge chocolate fan and it is my not so secret pleasure. The only downside about the sweet stuff is the damage all the sugar does to your teeth so Green & Black’s were real geniuses when they launched the world’s first organic chocolate in 1991. The company was founded by husband and wife team Craig Sams and Jo Fairley in their small bedroom with the aim of creating great tasting, innovative and ethically sourced chocolate. In 1994 Green & Black’s became the UK’s first Fairtrade mark for a chocolate product. There are now 19 varieties of chocolate in the Green & Black’s portfolio; my favorites are White Chocolate, Creamy Milk, Milk Chocolate, Butterscotch and Caramel. A few weeks ago I was gifted a ridiculous amount of bars by a generous PR which included two new flavours; Sea Salt with Milk Chocolate and Spiced Chilli with Dark Chocolate. The Spiced Chilli reminded me of the film, Chocolat where the character that Juliette Binoche plays would make hot chocolate with fresh chilli. Unfortunately that flavour was not to my liking. As much as I love chocolate I am not one for dark chocolate so that flavour was a bit too bitter for me. On the other hand I fell totally in love with the Sea Salt flavour – in theory it sounds a bit gross mixing salt with chocolate but it actually turned out to be mouthwatering delicious. The combination of sweet and savoury is very addictive because it brings out the caramel notes in the crunchy texture.
You can purchase Green & Black’s chocolate from most stores and from their website.
