Famous in Love follows Paige Townsen, an ordinary college student who lands a lead role on a Hollywood blockbuster and practically overnight becomes a huge star. She now needs to balance her regular student life with her two best friends along with the crazy star-studded one.
The show demonstrates what goes on behind glamour and glitz of a Hollywood film, the deals that need to be made, the compromises as well as the good old fashioned backstabbing.
We are introduced to Paige’s co-stars and their turbulent lives. There is Rainer Devon, Paige’s co-star, a spoiled playboy who is used to getting his own way and boy does he want Paige. Jordan Wilder is Rainer’s best friend who has a troubled past that comes back to haunt him.
Alexis Glenn, is one of Rainer’s old friends, she plays Paige’s sister in the film and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Her other BFF is Tangey Turner, a pop star with a controlling momager. Tangey just wants two things out of life; to be a triple threat and Jordan.
Then there is Nina Devon, Rainer’s smart and cunning mother. She makes Alexis look like a pussycat. Confident and manipulative, she will do whatever it takes to make sure things go her way.
On the other flip of the coin we have Paige’s room mates and college buddies, Cassie Perkins and Jake Salt. Cassie is bubbly and outgoing and shares the same dreams as Paige to be an actress. However, she has to resort to dangerous antics to pay her way. Jake is the complete opposite of Rainer, he is a down-to-earth guy from the Midwest who aspires to be a screenwriter and an indie filmmaker. He is secretly in love with Paige.
The series is based on the book of the same name by Rebecca Serle, which I will be purchasing on amazon. Watching this TV series was like reading a very juicy novel. you just lap up. For a start it looks amazing on the screen and it is full of pretty people, which seems to be a pre-requisite in this age. The characters are all relatable whether you like them or not – even the villains have likability.
There are no real twists and turns but you do get your kick from the snappy dialogue, the web of relationships and the complete over the topness. If you want a TV series just to watch for pure escapism then here you are.
I am so happy to hear that it has been renewed for a second series.
Famous in Love is available to watch on Amazon Prime.
