Brigit’s Bakery Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea

January 15, 2018

Now we all know that there is Afternoon Tea but there is also Afternoon Tea with a touch of spice. I became aware of Brigit’s Bakery or BB Bakery as it was known then when I went to a beauty launch (in my role as beauty editor of brownbeautytalk) a few years ago. BB Bakery was a very cute outlet in Covent Garden that specialises in Afternoon Tea with a French Twist – L’Afternoon Tea.

They have now rebranded and are known as Brigit’s Bakery. They also have a bus tour on the vintage Routemasters bus that takes you around the sights of London while you tuck into sandwiches, scones and cakes. I was invited by the company to experience a bespoke Brigit’s Bakery Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea aka Gin-uary.

This particular tour is sponsored by Hayman’s, the award-winning original English gin makers and we were treated to three seasonal complimentary Hayman’s Gin cocktails. We were also allowed to request any other hot drinks such as tea, hot chocolate and coffee. I had two of the cocktails and swapped the last Pimms cocktail for a glass of Prosecco. I also ordered a coffee which was served to me in their ever so kitsch portable cup.

We were served mini scones near the end of the trip with cream and jam. I was expecting to have this served with the cakes but this was a different touch. If your favourite part of Afternoon Tea is the scones then you might want to give this a miss as you will be a bit disappointed.

The tour lasted about an hour and a half took us from Victoria, though to the major sights of Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St James’s Park, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Marble Arch, Nelson’s Column, Downing Street and then back to Victoria. Throughout the tour there was commentary pointing out the sights with some historical facts.

This was a lovely experience and a great way to relax after work. I had had a full on day but after leaving the bus I felt very relaxed but then it might have been all the gin. LOL. Our host was very friendly and accommodating. The ride is very smooth so you don’t need to worry about your food and drink going all over the place. Oh and you are given a very pretty box to put your leftovers in.

I would love to try this bus tour again on a lovely summer afternoon or evening when it is a bit lighter as I feel that would be amazing. Brigit’s Bakery also offer non gin bus tours, boat tours and picnics. They give you the option of gluten free, vegetarian and halal Afternoon Teas but you do need to request this when you book.

I would advise that you take all your pictures once you get on the bus because due to health and safety you are not allowed to walk around. Although the bus tour time says 5pm, the bus does not leave until 5.30pm and we boarded at 5.15pm so you have a window of 15 minutes to take all your pictures before you set off. It is well worth doing because everything looks so picturesque.

Also there is no toilet onboard so I would advise that you go before you board. 🙂

Brigit’s Bakery Gin Lovers Afternoon Tea is priced from £55.00 each.

This looks like a great idea, but like you said I’d love to try it on a brighter day. I actually haven’t had gin before but really want to try it!

They have lots of other options and non-alcoholic ones. There is also an Afternoon Tea Boat Tour which sounds lush.
