For my birthday I was taken to Ayanna’s London by my brother and sister in law. Ayanna’s London is an elegant West Indian restaurant that is based in Canary Wharf. It was opened in 2013 and formerly known as Chef Collin Brown,
Most of the time when I eat out at Caribbean restaurants it has been at Bamboula Kitchen in Brixton or Jerk City off Oxford Street which are places for casual dining. Ayanna’s focus is on fine dining which is emphasised by the decor which is very simple and classic with great eye to detail. There is even a splendid fireplace as well as a grand piano.
We started with cocktails and I had a Strawberry Muse which was a lovely champagne cocktail. I decided to opt out of a starter and save myself for the main course and desert. I had Signature Jerk Chicken with Rice and a side order of Plantain and for desert I had Banana Cake and Custard.
I was impressed with the quality of the food – often at Caribbean restaurants they compromise the seasoning in order to appeal to a mainstream customer base but that was not the case with Ayanna’s. The dishes were really tasty and cooked to perfection.
The service was impeccable – we were greeted warmly by the waiter who kept coming back to check that we were ok. However what impressed me about the restaurant was the presentation of the dishes, they were amazing! Who would have thought that you could dress Curry Goat up like that?
I would like to add that this is not a place I would visit for fast service as they do take their time in bringing out the food. But if you are looking for a perfect place to go for a romantic meal with your partner or for a quiet evening out with your friends then this would be a perfect venue. You can get a two course meal for £23 per head and a three course for £28.50.
Ayanna’s London is based at 2 Yarsley Street, London E14 9RG.
