My first introduction to Malmaison was when I stayed over at the one in Birmingham so when Miranda from A July is a Dreamer and I decided to meet up we decided that for Afternoon Tea at Malmaison London would be perfect. After peeking on their website, it was their mini burgers that sold it to me.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from Barbican station and it really is an impressive building from the outside. The inside is not too poor either – the interior is a combination of funky style with a touch of Moulin Rouge and a dash of Las Vegas. This hotel is perfect for modern day Millies and Martins.
Chez Mal restaurant, where the dining takes place is downstairs and has a decadent and mysterious feel to it. The exposed brick walls, dark wooden tables and floors, and plush leather seating reeks of retro. As well as Afternoon Tea they serve classic traditional steakhouse dishes.
As soon as arrived we were greeted by a member of staff who led us to our table and we were served tea in Malmaion branded teapots, cups and saucers.
Ok now onto the Afternoon Tea, this consisted of mini burgers, salmon and cheese roll, beetroot wrap, cream filled doughnut, carrot cake, chocolate brownie, chocolate dessert and a smoothie. We were given a small scone with jam and cream after we had the main Afternoon Tea.
At first when we were served the Afternoon Tea I was not impressed because it did not look like enough food. I kept asking Miranda where the scones were. I also made a mental note to order some fries afterwards. In actual fact I had to leave a few pieces because I could not finish it all.
The service was top notch and the staff kept on coming over to see how we were. I will also give them 10/10 for presentation because the place was pristine and beautifully maintained. I will most certainly go back again for dinner.
Afternoon Tea at Malmaison London is £19.99 per person.
