I met Victoria at the Nails Inc press day last year where we bonded over our love for beauty products. She is the owner of VIKBeauty that covers the latest in nalis, hair, fragrance as well as fashion trends. Looking at VIKBeauty it is hard to believe that it was only set up just under a year ago. Victoria has achieved a lot since then and featured brands such as Chanel, Fendi, Jo Malone and Urban Decay on her site and along the way she has gained numerous of followers. When she is not blogging she is slaving away at her job as a corporate chick in the city but she managed to grab five minutes to talk to me about blogging, fashion and beauty.
What made you start blogging?
I have always had an interest in beauty and fashion and really wanted an area where I could write about things I like. A number of my friends kept telling me to start one and I debated for a year and eventually set one up one up last year.
Describe the concept behind VIKBeauty and how did you come up with the name?
VIKBeauty is where I would want my readers to come and enjoy beauty and fashion reviews with an element of fun attached to it. I don’t just review beauty and make up products but I also try to include make up and beauty tips and put togther outfit posts from pieces that have caught my eye. I also tend to write about issues that concern the modern day woman. My name is Victoria (V), and IK are the initials to my surname.
Over the last few years bloggers have really made their mark in blogsphere, how do you think they will continue to push the boundaries over the next few years?
I think going forward there will be more blogs being created as there is clearly an apetite for them. Bloggers can reach a market where using mainstream media on its own isn’t sufficient.
Your blog is very elegant, how did you decide on the look?
Thank you. I enjoy reading blogs that have a clean layout and aren’t fussy. With that in mind, I decided to stick with a simple layout with pictures of things I love.
What do you do when you are not working on your blog?
I work in the financial services sector ~ investment management & private equity.
Describe a typical day in the life of Victoria.
I wish it was more interesting! I wake up super early, shower then do my makeup. Then I check all emails and reply to urgent ones and then it’s work work work. With regards to blogging, I tend to write at night and take as many pictures as I can over the weekend if I know I won’t be in during the week.
What are your favourite glossy magazines?
For beauty, I love Allure magazine. For fashion I read InStyle, Vogue, Glamour, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire. I mean to be honest, they all cover the same thing but it’s just reading it from a different perspective.
Name five blogs that you read religiously.
I don’t read a certain blog religiously, I flick through and if I see a post that interests me, I will read it. There are a lot of blogs I like, but it tends to fluctuate. Which I’m guessing iit s the same for a number of people.
How do you see your blog evolving over the next two years?
I will just take each step as it comes and let it to evolve organically. I just want to continue blogging and building my readership.
