As I mentioned in a previous post, I am in a transitional period where I am trying to move over from lipgloss to lipstick. Last month while I was on the prowl in Superdrugs (Boots just doesn’t do it for me), I came across Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish Lipstick. To be honest it was the packaging that caught my eye; this lippie comes in an immaculate burgundy case that conveys a look of sophistication. The feel is rather un Rimmel London which over years has evolved into something very trendy and edgy, this item is something I would associate with L’Oreal or Revlon. I decided to purchase a couple (never been one to do things by halves) and I chose the Amethyst Shimmer and Heather Shimmer. The Heather Shimmer is a light pinkish colour that looks good with a lot of dark eye make up while the Amethyst a much more deep pink that can be worn alone while still making a statement. I was struck by how smooth the lipstick felt on my lips, it really glides across when you apply it and that feeling remains there for a good few minutes. It also has a lovely rose smell that you would get from a perfume. My only grumble – well two actually is that not all the darker colours such as Fudge Brownie and Starry Eyed are easily available (come on Rimmel it’s 2012) and the lipstick wears off a bit too quickly leaving your lips feeling very dry which results in endless reapplication, I must spend a good chunk of my day reapplying it. This is a joke considering that Rimmel touts that the lipstick lasts for a whooping eight hours. Hilarious! An overstatement if there ever was one. Overall the lipstick is a lovely product, the pigmentation is quite intense so you only require a few slicks for the colour for it to be absorbed on your lips. Rimmel have done themselves very proud here. Still it’s not a bad buy for £4.99 just make sure you carry a small mirror around for all the times you need to touch up. I will certainly be popping out to buy more in different shades.
Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Lipstick is available from Superdrugs and Boots.
