An Evening at Malmaison

MalmaisonWhen entering your room in Malmaison Birmingham you are greeted with an awful lot of goodies; snacks galore such as Propercorn, Convivial Yorkshire Crisps, fancy chocolate bars, bottles of wine and fresh chocolate strawberries. Talk about being spoilt; Malmaison really know how to impress. You know how some hotels put on the basics such as a couple of towels well this hotel goes one step further. Forgotten your shampoo, ear buds or shower caps well don’t worry because Malmaison has got you. They even have their own branded toiletries at your disposal.

The entrance is Malmaison Birmingham is very impressive with a very sleek design that reeks of opulence and sophistication. Plus it smells amazing. They have a spa, bistro and bar and there is WiFi!! Free WiFi!! You have no idea how happy I was when I found out. The location pleased me as it is a just throw stone away from the train station without being too close to the hustle and bustle of the commuters. Also there is a Starbucks inside the lobby and Sainsbury across the road in case you need some basics or fancy a short snack or simple shot of coffee.

Malmaison is a UK boutique hotel chain with 13 different hotels dotted around the country in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Oxford and Reading.┬áThe interior is very spacious but warm and comforting. It is tastefully designed with modern furniture but without looking too cold or masculine. Talking of which I would say they have nailed mixing the combination of he and hers styles. As you would find in a hotel there is the usual bedside tables and desk, TV and and side table but Malmaison’s USP is their use of lamps. Each room has four retro lamps dotted about that really give the room personality. Plus the suede headboard fits in with the feel of the cushions and side chair.

The food in the Bistro is real quality; I had the Mal Burger with fries and it was cooked to perfection. Their breakfast is also a delight; you have the usual trimmings of yogurt, cereal and fruit on offer but you can also have a cooked breakfast. Whatever you want at the Bistro is not an issue and the staff are very forthcoming with options on how you want your burger or eggs.

Malmaison is a great hotel for couples who fancy a weekend away in a new city and want a home away from home.
